Japan has reported a significant surge in influenza cases, with the last week of December seeing the highest number of cases in 25 years.
According to data collected from approximately 5,000 clinics across Japan, a total of 317,812 individuals were diagnosed with the flu between December 23 and 29. This surpasses the numbers recorded during the same period in 2023.
The increase in flu cases is consistent with seasonal trends, as colder weather often contributes to the spread of the virus. This phenomenon is not unique to Japan, as several countries, including France and the UK, have recently experienced a substantial rise in flu cases.
In fact, the trend is not limited to the Northern Hemisphere. In Australia, for instance, over 350,000 laboratory-confirmed flu cases were reported last year, highlighting the global nature of the issue. As the flu season continues, health authorities around the world are urging citizens to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
